On November 7 at 8am we will START. We will join together as the hands and feet of Christ, and put into action what we have been talking about the past few weeks of the START> series.  We will turn our speaking about into doing something about, roll up our sleeves and spend 4 hrs working together to show our neighbours that we love them by how we serve them.

There are a variety of projects to be involved in, from working the coat drive in Muskegon, sealing a handicap ramp at Muskegon Pregnancy Center, to going to an individual’s home and raking leaves. How will you serve? Will you serve as a family, as a small group, or get involved on your own? You are only one, but you are one. You cannot do everything, but you can do something. START here. START November 7th.

We will have an informational meeting about Church@Work and the Mobile Food Pantry after both services on Sunday, October 25, and November 1, or look for sign ups in the Lobby. Contact Tana at tanderson@slwc.org for more info.

This past Saturday morning we had Church @ Work, a day to serve our church and community. An idea for this event came from our desire to be radically loving towards our community and our church, putting others needs first and serving others with Jesus’ radical love. We had around 180 people participate that morning in numberous projects.  The stories just keep coming in about how impacting this was for everyone involved and how many want to continue to serve.  Below you will see a few messages of thanks from Love Inc, Ryan Cotton from the Village of Spring Lake and the Village President has sent a flower to the tribune.  Thanks to the Village the Tribune has gotten wind of what we did this past weekend and the tribune is going to be running an article about this in the paper.  So make sure you look for it.   Thanks to all of you that participated in the day and helped with organizing projects.  God is so amazing!!

“We a did a Flower to the Grand Haven Tribune that is posted below.   Everyone was so, so helpful and accomplished a grand total of over 50 hours of help in getting the areas recreational amenities in shape for the summer. Thank you so very much!!”

Ryan Cotton, Village of Spring Lake

“Wow are we grateful for the Spring Lake Wesleyan Church!  About 25 kids and their parents worked all Saturday morning making the Village and the entire region a better place.  The Duer family and others cleaned the fall leaves and winter debris out of the rain garden at Tolford and Buchanan Streets.  This rain garden helps keep storm water pollutants out of the Grand River.  Another even larger crew of about 16 spent the morning helping ready the flowers on the Tri-Cities Bike Path to flourish this spring.  They also swept up bucketfuls of sand blown over onto the path from M-104 as leftovers from the harsh winter.  Back breaking work, thank you!  Lastly, another crew from Coopersville re-mulched all of the trees planted in 2005 and 2006.  This tree care is vital to help ensure preservation of moisture in the ground if the summer is hot again.”

“In our staff meeting this morning Eric Morgan mentioned that he went out to the Crockery location yesterday afternoon where one of your small groups worked all morning and he was just amazed!  He was thrilled with the work that was done and the way everything looks!  It was such a blessing to have you there.  What an answer to prayer. Thanks again!  This helps so much in the process of getting ready to open that location in May! God bless you all!”

What is your story? How did you see God working in you and through you while you were serving? How can you keep radically loving your community and your church? Please share your thoughts and your experiences with us so we can be encouraged and that we can learn how to be better in our radical love for others.
