Day Four - Josh B on being a Day Leader (Whiskey 1)

Josh - each day a day leader is picked out of the venturers to take charge of the group. They get briefed  each morning by the Raleigh staff before they have to hold meetings a few times during the day and let the group know what we will be doing today. It is hard to be a day leader as you have to gain the attention of the whole group when you are trying to speak. You have to pick people in the group or ask them if they would like to volunteer to do duty’s for each day e.g. communications check with the phone back to base camp, cooking breakfast, empty rubbish. Each day leader picks a deputy day leader and that person then becomes day leader the next day. There are three main jobs that 3 people in the group have to do each day and these are: mini medic, tools officer and photographer. Day leader is then de-briefed at the end of each day and tells the Raleigh staff how they felt there day went. Just had to stop typing as it has started to poor and have to help a local mason put a tarp over one of the recently finished toilet blocks —– 10 minutes later. I’M BACK AND WET BUT STILL WITH A SMILE ON MY FACE as I was saying being a team leader is a positive job to hold as it brings confidence and motivations upon yourself and gives you the chance to interact with everyone at the same time. The day leader will lead the group at the project site as well by getting them to sort out groups and timings of breaks, meet times etc. I’m back off to finish my toilet with Becca B and Ella.
