Do Gooding

globe-sm.gifPeriodically I will post suggestions about how people can offer their time and/or financial support to local causes. As the kick-off on this subject, the Queens Community House is an excellent go-to social assistance agency along many dimensions. Their Web site is still under construction (they changed their name last year), but the gist of their long-standing good will is outlined below.

You can reach them at: (718) 592-5757 or by e-mail.

The Queens Community House is a diverse, multi-service organization offering a variety of services to individuals and families throughout Queens. Our program participants include children, teens, adults and the elderly.

Description:
The Queens Community House (formerly Forest Hills Community House) is a settlement house founded in 1975 to assist, strengthen, and help improve the quality of life of individuals, families, and communities. Today, our 17 program areas reach over 20,000 people throughout Queens. Our 18 sites serve as centers for community gathering, organizing, and social service activity, and our activities work to promote inter-generational and cross-cultural cooperation and exchange. The Queens Community House also works with other organizations in networks and coalitions to advocate for and provide services borough-wide.

Our programs include an early childhood center; after school, teen leadership, and youth development centers; ESOL and job preparation; housing assistance and homelessness prevention; meals-on-wheels, adult day care and case management; and 4 senior centers.
