There are many wonderful organizations serving people in need all over Israel. This list represents one that I received from organizations in Jerusalem expressing a desire for volunteers.

If these organizations don't meet your availability or interests, I encourage you to keep looking and find ones that do. Volunteering has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my life.

Ezer Mizion: the Israel Health Support Organization

"Ezer Mizion, the Israel Health Support Organization, offers an extensive range of medical and social support services to help Israel's sick, disabled, elderly and underprivileged populations. Since its founding in 1979, Ezer Mizion has grown to become one of the largest non-profit organizations in Israel, benefiting over half a million people every year."

Melabev: For Senior Citizens with Cognitive Impairment

  • Volunteer drivers
  • Office workers
  • Group work assistants

"Melabev, award winning nonprofit agency in Israel, runs a full spectrum of services for the elderly of Jerusalem suffering from Alzheimer's-like symptoms, and for their family caregivers. We provide quality of life for the elderly, and ease the burden on their families, but we couldn't do it without community support."

Yad Sarah: Helping the Sick, Disabled, and Elderly, and Their Families

"Yad Sarah, the largest voluntary organization in Israel, provides a spectrum of free or nominal cost services designed to make life easier for sick, disabled, and elderly people and their families."

Helping the Elderly

  • Installing security devices in the homes of destitute senior citizens
  • Coordinate health and fitness project
  • Work on fundraising for board

Contact the department of volunteerism (hitnadvut) at any hospital, they are all in need of your help.

Docent guides are needed at all museums, including:
