Moments in time

The Moses Moment

The Metaphor: I use the term Moses moment to describe what it must have been like to stand in front of the burning Bush and realize that God is talking to you in that moment, and this is what you are supposed to do.

Some History: About 7 years ago I had one of those flashes that came straight from God. I don't have many of these revelations, but one morning I was pushing a shopping cart across the lot with two kids in tow when these words came into my head. "Keep doing what you're doing"

At that time I was new to the S.A.H.D. thing, but I really this thought and these words really stuck with me. I honestly feel that it was God telling me to keep on keeping on. At that I was still morning leaving the guitar thing, unsure of what I was doing, or where I was going. I filed those words in the back of my head, but kept them close to recall and use them for my own encouragement.

Fast Forward

A chance Moment: Last night I was off to the Team leader council at school. It's the end of the year and we talked about Teacher appreciation, 8th grade matriculation, and a few other end of the year things.

It wasn't the hour long meeting that was the high point for me, but the 2 minute meeting I had just before.

It's been cold here the last few days, and I stopped by Starbucks for a Hot Chocolate. When I looked to my left I saw a blond sitting at a table with a hard bound book about Taylor Guitars. Across the table from her was Bob.

I thought about it for a minute, and then approached him. This wasn't hard since I've known him for nearly 20 years, but haven't seen him in 4 or 5.

"Hello Bob" I said, like Seinfeld used to say to Newman. This is the way I used to greet him every morning.

After a quick glance, pause, he recognized me, and we had a nice chat...When I got my HC, I told him that I was off to a council meeting, and he said this...

"Do a good job"

I got a lot of advice from him over the decade that I worked for him, but this was probably the most important and probably the best timed.

The Knot

The last few weeks I've found a lot of satisfaction in helping out the kids at the school. I've been getting to know them more. Some of these kids have great stories. Others are less fortunate. The thing is that they are all important. They are important enough for me to "Do a good Job" for them.

I found it interesting that the man that gave me a chance to get into guitar work would now speak the words that would push me forward in this endeavor. I may be inferring a little bit here, but Bob may put more value on the work that I'm doing now than on the 10+ years of service I worked for his company.
