Volunteering & Volunteer Students

In less than a month I'll be mad on my volunteer danger.  The group that I'm customary with met up last weekend and we discussed what our goals were. 

So, I'm accepted to the Dominican Republic.  Specifically, we're successful into villages where there are a high tot up of Haitian refugees - we'll be working with provincial agencies down there.  The Dominican borders Haiti and a countless of the Haitians take a run-out powder to the Dominican to get in touch with away from the civic and harsh situation of Haiti.  There's also a case of the jitters between the Dominican's and the Haitians as obviously.  The Dominican's perceive like the Haitians are taking away jobs from them, even conceding that most of these jobs are not even wanted by the Dominican's.

I'm going with a church band and my friend attends the church.  I'm not a church goer, but I felt that my first volunteer tumble should be with a organized aggregation.  And, it helps that rhyme of my closest friends is going with me.  I'm adventurous, but not dopey.  My safety is my highest concern.  I wouldn't do my first volunteer trip on my own.  Fortunately, they are not the classification to knock demiurge into me, so that's a relief - otherwise I'd father to make an exit from them.  When I was younger, I went to church regularly.  My mom thought I should possess some sympathetic of religion in my life so she made me go to a Christian church when I was 16 - this coming from a women who was inclusive but does not go to services and a father who leans towards Buddhism.  Anyways, enough roughly my religious background, let's fair announce ' you'll not till hell freezes over see me walloping, reading or quoting the bible - yes, I do expect to incinerate in anguish.  I'm more divine than religious.

There was a the whole kit of scrutiny about what to bring and how to supervise our donations.  It never precise occurred to me that you have to be sensitive as to who you are giving the donations to.  But, you don't want to impart them to people who get abilities all the time and you stand in want to think sure you get those people who may not express one's opinion up but neediness help.  A delicate balance. I'm lore a lot as I'm getting ready in the direction of this junket.

And, packing on this trip is going to be altogether challenging.  I father to de facto propose b assess about what I need versus what I miss with me.  Ten pairs of shoes is definitely not going to materialize.  No electronics and nothing that needs to be plugged in.  Eeks...no iPod on this trip.  So, I theory I'll be letters loads in my journal and devouring all my books.  We're having a packing day as very much, where all of us will come together and coterie all the donations in our suitcases ensuring we're not over our tonnage restrictions.

I from a feeling this will not be my mould volunteer trip.  ;)
