So What If I Go To A High Acheiving School?

We had to watch this play type thing in tutorial on Wednesday. It was cringeworthy to say the least but better than your average assembly. Despite it's comedy it was really about further education and the opportunities brought to London by the 2012 Olympic games.

Two out of the three characters in the play had very low expectation and even the third wasn't sure whether they wanted to go to University or not. At my school everyone is expected to do well in their GCSEs do A-Levels and ten go to Uni. And so once the play was over everyone in my form was saying "I don't think that talk was really aimed at us". This just made me angry. Just because we're expected to go to University and do A-Levels and get good grades doesn't mean we have to.

I hate the way my school is so wrapped up in its own little bubble. A bubble where anything but A* s aren't mentioned. Unlike private school, my school doesn't look down on people with less money but they most certainly do look down on anyone who isn't as "clever" as "us".

To be honest I don't know wether I want to go to University or not. I'd actually quite like to go into child care. But say that to a careers adviser at my school and they'll look at you as if you've just woken up from a coma " have you considered the potential you have to go on to University" yes, yes I have but that isn't necessarily what I want to do when I "grow up". I don't want to be a doctor, a scientist, a writer, a journalist, an accountant, an engineer or an architect. In-fact the only career path i might consider going to university for would be to be a teacher.

I like kids. I like fun, I like living for the moment and doing what I want to do when I want to do it. Not what and when I'm expected to do things.
