something that matters to me…………

this is my first post on this site so bear with me as i try to figure out how to do this.....

i have been volunteering at a local animal shelter in my hometown of redlands. i have been doing this for a couple of years now and i find it very rewarding. but there are aspects of volunteering at a shelter that has it's drawbacks too. sometimes i feel overwhelmed about the animals we get in. if you are not familiar with an animal shelter it is a place where cats and dogs go that have been picked up as strays or have been released to us by their owners. we get in all types of animals in and sometimes it is just not limited to the feline or canine variety. we have been known to get the occasional bobcat or mountain lion in and even ducks or chickens. my next few blogs on this site will include some pictures of me helping out at the redlands shelter and contact information for the shelter including website information.

i am writing these first few blogs as a project for my english class but my later blogs will be more on personal issues like me and my personal struggles and triumphs on this thing called life. but more on the shelter.....i have learned over the years people have had mixed reaction when entering the shelter the most common question is how long do we keep the animals before we put them down. we try our hardest to find every animal loving homes but there are scenarios were we do put the animal down like if they are really sick or behavior problems that make them unsuitable for future adoption. but we are as humane as possible when doing this.

why did i start volunterring at the shelter? i love animals and wanted to make a difference in the world. i had alot of friends that said they where for animal rights but did not do anything about it. and it made me angry. so i did something about it. i got involved and thats something i learned from my father he told me one time "boy, instead of complaining about a problem get off your ass and do something about it!"

so i did!

stay tuned for pictures and contact information.
