The Volunteer Breeze
It’s currently day two for me up in the mountains of Chiang Rai, Thailand. I’ve joined this organization, , and I’m going to volunteer with them for two weeks. Mainly I’ll be teaching English to the hill tribes. I might help out with some outdoor work as well.
It’s very beautiful up here but it’s cold as hell in the mornings. The ice cold showers don’t help anything. I can get used to rock hard thin mattresses, as well as the squat toilets (although I hate them like hell) but cold showers suck badly for me (hot weather aside).
It’s very pretty up here. Quiet. Very rural life. The other volunteers seem alright. It seems to be a bit clicky here as some people have bonded due to time and they don’t seem too friendly to new volunteers. They are polite, of course, but not inviting.
I can’t wait to actually meet locals and work with them. I’m doing a homestay this weekend.
